Trio Garufa

Adrian Jost, accordion, grew up in the French Riviera of Switzerland, where drawn by a fascination of buttons, he started playing the accordion at the age of six. There he played with the orchestra Les Alouettes de Vevey and the Quatuor Valdensius. Adrian's passion for Tango started in Chicago where, in the milongas, he danced 'til dawn. Adrian and Guillermo met in San Francisco in 1999 and later founded the trio Garufa.

Guillermo Garcia, guitar, born in Bahía Blanca, a southern port of Argentina, where he grew up among tango music, soccer, barbecues, military coups and numerous currency devaluations. Inexplicably attracted by the shape of the guitar, he started playing argentine tango and folklore music at the age of 11, and later became a classical guitarist and an electronics engineer. He moved to Paris in 1990 to pursue a Master degree in audio signal processing, and worked as a researcher in computer music at the Centre Pompidou until 1995. He then moved to California, where he worked for Gibson Guitar and Silicon Graphics, and co-founded the tango band "Flor de Tango", with whom he recorded a CD album and has been performing since 1996. In 2001 he founded Trio Garufa with Adrian Jost and John Eckstrom. .

John Eckstrom, double basse, is a San Francisco native who currently lives in the East Bay. John's early encounters with music were piano and violin lessons as a youth. Struck by the rock-and-roll revolution of the 1960's John took up playing electric bass in rock bands throughout the Bay Area and did many recordings of which his favorite was a Levi's commercial that aired nation-wide. During his college years John started playing jazz and the double bass that eventually led to playing in orchestras. John studied bass with Charles Siani of the San Francisco Symphony while a music major at San Francisco State University. Today, John actively plays jazz and in orchestras. Tango is a new found passion of John's and he is proud to be a member of Trio Garufa.
