This just in...Marcelo & Yanina are back in town now for a while. They performed at
the Mariposa Argentine Tango Club
last night... They are two very elegant Tango dancers. They did a very
beautiful Tango with some very smooth moves and elegant embellishments.
They also did a fun milonga. It's good to have them back.

Just heard that Channel 9 will air "Tango Magic" at 9:55 p.m. tonite!!
The KQED blurb reads: "Hosted by actor Hector Elizondo, this special
features four pairs of dancers, including the principal cast of Broadway's
acclaimed "Forever Tango". The performances take center stage, but the
program also presents the history of tango through the eyes of the late
composer/musician Astor Piazzolla, whose "New Tango" revitalized the dance
and introduced it to a younger generation in the 1950s. Short documentary
style interludes, along with montages of photos and archive footage, help
tell the story of what has been described as "more than a dance...a way of
life." This program features Carolina and Diego of Forever Tango, violinist
Gidon Kremer, bandoneon player Tyota Komatsu, singers Maria Grana and Jose
Angel Trelles and Piazzolla's own star pianist Pablo Ziegler, all backed by
the Orpheus Orchestra, the celebrated chamber music ensenble from New York
City." This should be GOOD!! Enjoy. Elaine Sirois

The Milonga at the Monte Cristo Club was
busy tonight. There were guest from Canada, Kentucky, Montana, and Buenos Aires (how's that
for a mix). Orlando & Susana gave a beautiful performance.
Gary and Nirmula were in good form
and played a varied mix of music with a short swing/salsa break. There was a friendly group of
dancers and the dance floor was not overly crowded--how pleasent that was. One little detail I
like, there was always plenty of water and cups available for the thirsty.
What a fun way to spend a Friday evening...TTM

Had a good time at the Mariposa Argentine
Tango Club last night...
The turn out was just right with a little more
room than usual on the dance floor. The snacks were good as usual (good job Victor).
I like the punch, fresh melon and strawberries. Nito & Elba and Orlando & Susana each did a performance.
Awhile after the performance, a couple of us played Tango hookey (don't tell Victor) and split to check
out the Salsa scene at the El Valenciano Restaurant.
There was live hot Salsa music by Ray Martinez y su Orquesta. The place was packed.
There was a rumor of a Salsa contest, but it never happened...TTM

Nora's Tango Week has another fun Milonga...
Nora's Tango Week Milongas at the Holiday Inn, Top of the Bay Ballroom, in Emeryville
are don't miss events...
There was good energy and good dancing at The Bay Ballroom, top floor of the Holiday Inn.
One of the highlights was the El Chamuyo lead by Indio and Gavito. At the end of the night
Gavito and Indio each did a solo male Argentine dance. It was much fun to watch. There are two more
Milongas in Nora's Tango Week, one tonight and the closing Milonga Friday night. If you
have not attended yet, put these last two high on your dance list...TTM

Nora's Tango Week is off to a great start...
Nora's Tango Week Milongas at the Holiday Inn, Top of the Bay Ballroom, in Emeryville
are don't miss events...
The Bay Ballroom is on the top floor of the Holiday Inn. The view is fantastic. The 4th of
July fireworks display was beautiful from that view. There are two large dance
floors alone side each other separated by a rug walk way going up the middle. The New York
Tango Trio played for a good part of the night with CD music in between sets. The music is
great and it was a very fun filled night.
Sunday night included a Milonga and Masters' exhibition for $20. Nito & Elba, Guillermina
& Roberto, Orlando Paiva & Susana, and Indio & Mariana each did Tango exhibitions. Great
fun to watch. Filming was permitted. P.S. Bring your check book and order Tango shoes from
Mr. Tango Shoes, a beautiful new dress from Linda
Ayre's Fashions, or Tango CD's from Christy. Each had displays
just outside the ballroom on the top floor...TTM
