Flor de Tango

Flor de Tango, a tango duo from Argentina formed by Argentinean musicians Mirta Wymerszberg (flute) and Guillermo Garcia (guitar), presents an unusual evening of tango music and dance. The show features tango dancers Marcelo & Analía ("Forever Tango", film "Evita") from Buenos Aires, sharing the stage with San Francisco dancers Tristan Ching, Tianne Frias, Brian Grannan and Amy Foley in the choreographies of Jose Comoda and Robert Moses. The passionate, mischievous music from Buenos Aires reveals its secrets through the counterpoint styles of modern and tango dance. Flor de Tango and guest musicians will play traditional and modern tango from composers such as Aníbal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Agustín Bardi, Julio De Caro and Astor Piazzolla. Additionally, local artists Gordon Fenner and Mark Crow will present an exhibit of sculpture and photography at the theater lobby in San Francisco.

Mirta Wymersberg and Guillermo García bring extensive experience in authentic tango music from Argentina where they received their musical education and performed classical and tango music. After having first met in France where they pursued advanced studies in their respective fields, they both relocated to the Bay Area and formed Flor de Tango as an exploration of their roots, in November 1996.

Mirta just returned from Argentina. She had a 1 hour interview with Ruben Reale where Flor de Tango's cd was broadcasted at "FM de la Cuidad", a well known tango station that plays Tango music all-day in Buenos Aires. The Band has an intensive schedule of performances this coming week in California. Don't miss the chance of dancing to Flor de Tango's live music at your favorite Milonga.

Flor de Tango CD album will be available for purchase at the door.
